The Silent History and Healing Through Time
Tuesday February 19, 2019 at 7:00pm
Staunton City Hall, 116 West Beverley St.
A group of local citizens from different backgrounds will share their stories of what it has been like to live during segregation, school integration and up to the present day.
Once again, we will meet to discuss issues that are still prevalent in this day and age. Progressing through the 21st century, we find ourselves and our country at a critical period. A time where, if we refuse to accept each other for who we are and our past, progress will not be possible. The hard discussions must take place and we must engage in the even more difficult task of listening. Edmund Burke once said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." We will do this hard task of conversing with one another and trying to find ways to move forward.
Event hosted by Ms. Matthews: You are invited to join us at Allen Chapel AME Church, 936 Sudbury St, Staunton for our first Love Thyself, Love Thine Neighbor Conference on February 16th 2019 at 9 a.m. Registration and a coffee social will begin at 8 a.m. A $10.00 donation is requested, which includes lunch served at noon. This special event is a fundraiser for Women's Day. This is an informative yet fun filled event. Come as you are. We will have mental health professionals, a local politician, great music, and healthy tips to take home and share.
The purpose of this conference is to not only draw attention to the fact that nutrition and exercise is important, but also emphasize our mental health needs. Come and enjoy.
